An artist community with numerous galleries and studios, quaint coffee shops, restaurants, bars, beautiful coastlines, hiking through nature preserves, beaches and marinas.
A short drive down the island is Stonington one of the largest producing lobster ports in Maine. Let one of our local guides take you in a guided boat tour of the area and end it with a fresh lobster bake.

See lighthouses on the Deer Isle Lighthouse Trail, explore the Barred Island Preserve or hike through the Edgar M Tennis Preserve.

 

Acadia Region

A visit to Downeast Maine would not be complete without a trip to Acadia National Park. Located approximately an hour drive from Deer Isle, the park encompasses 47,000 acres of coastal shoreline, granite-topped mountains, wooded areas, bogs, and spectacular scenery. Go explore one of the other towns in Downeast Maine! Take a day trip to the Schoodic Peninsula or hop on the Mail Boat from Stonington to Isle au Haut.

Get a true taste of Downeast Maine when you try some local wines and brews! Take a break from your adventures and relax with a drink in your hand. Many of these options use only local ingredients to create fresh and unique refreshments each batch. One of the local favorites is Deep Water Brewing Co. A three-barrel microbrewery. Visit Strong Brewing, Atlantic Brewing Co., or have a wine tasting at Bar Harbor Cellars. Pilgrim's Inn bar will be opening this summer, as well!

Art is everywhere in Deer Isle! Our gorgeous area has inspired many. Many artists gather here to create their work; you can even stimulate your own creativity here and take a class! Visit rotating art shows at Turtle Gallery, or participate in an art class or workshop to develop your skills at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Take a nice stroll through town and view Maine photography at Kingman Gallery, just across the Mill Pond from Pilgrim’s Inn. Enjoy an opera show at the Stonington Opera House.
